06 June 2007 – Vodafone Mobile Internet available today June 10, 2007Posted by Phil Jeudy in Wireless.
The higher peak of comments for the Mobile Monday London Community happened the last 3 days …the reason?
This is the beginning of the press release from Vodafone UK:
- “Millions of customers able to access the internet on their mobiles, whenever and wherever they like
- Unique technology tailors sites to ensure excellent representation of the fixed internet on mobiles
- Partnerships with major brands – Google, eBay, YouTube, MySpace, Yahoo! Mail – gives customers their internet favourites in their hands
- All major web email accounts brought together for first time in mass market personal push email service
From today, millions of Vodafone UK customers will be able to access all of their favourite internet sites from their mobile phones.
Vodafone Mobile Internet will ensure an accurate representation of the internet on a mobile, allowing customers to replicate on their handsets what they can do on the computer – from updating their MySpace profile, through sending and receiving emails with AOL, Windows Live Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail amongst others, to buying and selling on eBay.” If you wanna read the full PR, click here.
The first warning from Momoers came from this message (just to give a summary of the situation):
“As I am sure everybody who runs services will be aware Voda UK changed
their gateways for pay-monthly customers last night. All hits from any
device to a site not explicitly registered as “mobile” now gets given
a useragent of …
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:126.96.36.199) Gecko/20060909
… which obviously makes it impossible to correctly detect the device
type. Interestingly the user MSISDN is also being passed at present
though suspect that won’t last ;-)!”
Mobile Internet is definitely not a simple story…Launch are never easy to manage!
