Live from Mobile 2.0 in Barcelona July 4, 2008
Posted by Phil Jeudy in Wireless.1 comment so far
Today is a Mobile Day in Barcelona…but for once not for Mobile World Congress (3GSM new name), but for a cousin event to the one organised in San Francisco: Mobile 2.0!
People are all in there, starting from Daniel Appelquist from Vodafone or Peter Versterbracka one of the founder of Mobile Monday Global community).
Discussions form opening panel were interesting, “Mobile Social Media”, where it’s not sure than every panelist agrees, but billing point came quickly as a key issue in this topic!
Program of conference here. Thank you Rudy de Waele for initiating this conference in Barcelona in Summer…
You can read from this conference also from a Mobile Veteran Fred Dumeny.
When Marketing is reaching its limit June 24, 2008

Let me tell you first: to me Nokia is a big company.
Just read the story of this Finnish company, this is a big awesome one. Investing a lot, kind of leader on its market (N95, what a smart cellphone). On mobile gaming, pushing out this industry out of its carriers walled garden, a destructive ecosystem. Well, many other things to tell.
But MOSH. MOSH! Means ugly in French. “Tu connais la dernière trouvaille de Nokia? C’est Mosh”. Well France is a small country, but quand même.
Sad story, I tell you.

Mobile Web Summit: please stop this 2.0 thing! May 12, 2008

I was reading my daily news on Services Mobiles edited by Christophe Romei when I saw this: Mobile Web 2.0 Summit June 11th and 12th in London!
I’m not that cynical, and amongst speakers there are some people I know very involved in their position but also who knows to handle some topics with care.
So I join some voices here and there to say: stop using this “2.0″ miracle concept!
Mobile Web has not yet reached 0.5 level. Can you tell me the situation of i-mode in Europe? Can you give me some evidence that Mobile Web (in Europe) has started in some places? Can you give me some reasonable and clear data offer you can find at the moment? Speed of browsing? Quality of look & feel?
Mobile Web, through it’s distribution situation, has not moved since 2005 when I started to work in this industry for a video game publisher. Or just a few maybe…
Some of the topics:
- Mobile Web 2.0 – uniqueness that creates new value
- Mining for data – what tools can we use to understand the Mobile Web 2.0 user?
- Determining who has the value in the value chain (good question, we know the answer…for the moment)
- Mobile Web 2.0 – debating the definition
- The role of Mobile Web 2.0 in advertising and brand impact – revenue potential or just another fad?
- Two Tribes or One World? – sharing content between web 2.0 and the Mobile Web 2.0 experience
- Blogger panel session: this year’s hits and misses
- Ensuring excellent end to end user experience and quality of service
- Operator Strategy – Mobile Web 2.0 and the networks
Come on, is that really topics of a matured business? Unfortunately I’ll be somewhere in Mountain View in the US at this date, and mobile is just a part of my new activities. So will not attend anyway!
I remain passionate about mobile but compared to the experience I faced for almost 3 years, I can see a kind of gap… If you want a comparison, mobile web is in kind of situation when web himself was proposed by companies like AOL. You said? 10 years ago?
Guys, good luck and enjoy the show!
Monetizing the next generation of mobile web: well just start to monetize Osney Media with 2.000€…
Second Life streaming to your mobile phone by Vollee April 23, 2008

Second life in the street with your mobile: can you imagine that?!
Definitely what Vollee is doing is really to follow… Smart technology! The only missing point is to be able to stream without exploding your carriers bill
There are really nice stuff to finally continue the web experience and use in a mobility situation: the only future for any mobile service… Mobile device is not unique: just another platform

I’m back in San Francisco for one week and attend to Web 2.0 Expo.
Last time I came in March 08, I had a bill from Orange France that reached 1.500€, including 600€ for data use (just checking my emails for one week!).
So I made the decision to do some cost killing, because I can’t spend the money I don’t have!
I was in a shop in SF, on my way to buy a prepaid card, when this very cool Jeffery proposed me to take a line with boost mobile!
Simple: 45$ per month, unlimited call!
You just have to buy a handset (109$ is the first price if I remember well, a Motorola very basic), you have the first month included in the handset price!
Just 10 sec to think, then I took it… in fact I’ve chosen the offer including text and web navigation.
Whatever rumor saying that the network is not perfect (boost mobile use Sprint network), the fact that the handset is a medium one, this is just a great idea, a good product for me! The only thing to do is to pay every month, or you lose your number. More details here.
There is the possibility to suscribe to Boot V.I.P. and get some free contents. Now I will try to check my email and maybe go Twitter!
The US market is very competitive, with many MVNOs challenging the big ones… A big change with French market, still not challenged enough.
More details on boost mobile.
