The first conference at Web 2.0 Expo in Berlin will be dedicated to Mobile 2.0, presented by Brian Fling from Fling Media. Mobile topic for starting Web 2.0: any symbol?
The objective of this workshop will be a comprehensive and in-depth tutorial on not only designing and developing mobile web sites from concept to completion, but also how to integrate mobile technology into desktop web sites and web applications.
To be honest, I think “Mobile 2.0″ means nothing except trying giving some consideration to an industry which is still too many controlled in terms of distribution (I mean facility and pricing) by carriers.
But developing applications on mobile request specific knowledge in terms of technology and use of mobile. That’s good stuffs to get from Brian.
Planning mobile web strategy is another thing:
- small audience (growing now?)
- expensive price to pay for development
Well so huge amount of money to start to get audience but with which rate of ROI? Brian, we’ll be listening to you with many attention!

Don’t you think that carriers are starting to loose some of their “power” on both side, with manufacturers on one and content producers on the other one?
No I don’t think Julien. I have some discussions with people I know in the industry, I don’t see a big change.
You mean Nokia? Which content producers? Which audience? New business models? Tell me!
I don’t a lot about the mobile industry, but I have to say that… when i used to say “‘I am Orange customer”, I say “I have an iPhone”. What matters no for me is what people can do with their phones (what apps they have <- content?) and not anymore how many minutes they can can their friends vs. their colleagues!
Again, I don’t know a lot about this, but I see little lights!
Definitely agree. There are some lights.
Lights come from Iphone and Android: direct to consumer business with Apstore, no “mobile obsessed Geek model” but simple interface (let’s wait a little for Android!).
And now Microsoft preparing it’s own platform…
There’s is some light thanks to major web companies. I say web, could say sofware (and few manufactor…). But no mobile handset manufactor, from my point of view, even if Nokia is spending a lot of money.
Brian Fling is great. I saw him in SanFran in front of a small crowd, but he really pulled it off. I only can recommend to visit his session
I work for a digital agency called Zeta and i have witnessed a steady growth in mobile web usage, especially since the launch of the Google phone and Iphone.
We have recently published an article titled “How the web is going mobile” which you may be interested in.
